"The Dangerous Summer"
from Friday, November 19, 2010 to Saturday, January 8, 2011
Galerie XII,巴黎四区14 rue des Jardins Saint-Paul
In 1958, Life magazine asked Hemingway to write a series of stories about the rivalry between two bullfighters, Luis Miguel Dominguin and Antonio Ordoñez, which was attracting huge crowds. Hemingway followed them for two seasons, between 1959 and 1960, as they met in several breathtaking bullfights.
The editor of Paris-Match, Gaston Bonheur, was also a fan of the bullfight and he gave photographer Jean-Claude Sauer the chance to photograph the contests described by Hemingway in The Dangerous Summer.
The exhibition brings together around thirty of the most powerful photographs of these unforgettable encounters between two men who were friends and brothers-in-law, but absolute rivals in the arena.
The exhibition includes a retrospective of Jean-Claude Sauer’s work. As a war photographer he covered numerous conflicts for Paris-Match and Life magazine, notably Biafra and Vietnam. Between war assignments, he enjoyed shooting celebrities. -
