From September 13 to October 26, 2024, Galerie XII presents an exhibition by Dutch artist Marie Cecile Thijs. A photographer who plays with temporality, Marie Cecile Thijs creates images embodying a relationship between past and present that seems unreal, even supernatural. Portraits of people, animals, flowers, objects and food inspired by 17th-century painting, each of her subjects is marked by an unsettling immobility. This duality - between old and new, light and dark, intimacy and distance - is the key to Marie Cecile Thijs' work.
For this exhibition, Galerie XII presents works from his various series: : Flowers, Vases & Delftware, Food Portraits, Amazones and White Collar.
The exhibition also features an eight-minute video from the Green Scenes series Green Scenes In it, the artist imagines a parallel world, transformed into a green sphere, where animals and plants have regained control, having conquered space and time. See an extract here.
