After an exhibition at Milan's Palazzo Reale and Palermo's Villa Zito, Patrizia Mussa's work will be presented at the Italian Cultural Institute from January 28. A parallel exhibition will open at the Galerie in March.

In her photographs, Patrizia Mussa adopts a language that seems, at first glance, objective, due to the use of natural light and her frontal vision. But for the artist, photography is only the starting point.
After shooting and printing on cotton paper, Patrizia Mussa uses colored pastels to retrace the details, thus marking a definitive distance from the purely photographic language to arrive at an as yet unnamed artistic domain where the photographic act joins the pictorial gesture.

The aim of this particular research by the artist is not to catalog the architecture of Italian theaters, but rather to relive and restore a personal experience through the artistic gesture:
“A work of rigor and reflection, a look with half-closed eyes, triggering a dreamlike process, a search for a root, a soul, another sense; a kind of radiographic snapshot, retinal or cortical, printed on a thin veil.”.

What Patrizia Mussa proposes to the public is not just descriptive photographs of Italy's sumptuous theatrical architectural heritage, but the very idea of the theater as a place of community, where to gather, watch and be watched, a kind of secular temple built for the imagination and the imaginary.
