莫娜 ·库恩 (Mona Kuhn), Kings Road
Published by Steidl
160 pages
100 images
Hardback
24.5 x 31 cm
English
In Kings Road Mona Kuhn lyrically reconsiders the realms of time and space within the architectural elements of the Schindler House in Los Angeles. Built by Austrian architect Rudolph M. Schindler in 1922, the house was both a social and design experiment and an avant-garde hub for intellectuals and artists in the 1920s and ’30s. For this project Kuhn collaborated with the Department of History of Art and Architecture at UC Santa Barbara, and gained access to Schindler’s private archives including blueprints, letters and notes. Alongside reproducing some of these for the first time in this book, Kuhn reinterprets the dichotomy between memory and record in a series of color photos, and solarized gelatin silver prints, a technique favored by the Surrealists. The enigmatic subject of her solarized pictures is a fictional, ethereal figure inspired by a letter from Schindler to a mysterious woman. Kuhn’s impressionistic photos render this female presence physical, even as it seems to be dematerializing: fleeting images that question the very nature of photography as record.

Paolo Ventura, Photographs and Drawing
Published by Silvana Editoriale, 2020
Texts by Walter Guadagnini
17x24 cm
430 color illustrations
512 pages
This volume is the first monograph devoted to the work of Paolo Ventura (Milan, 1968).
Ventura offered a singular interpretation in which photography is the final product of a creative process. He foresees the preparation of scenarios and especially models: these, with real characters (among which often appears even the artist), are the protagonists of his narratives. In these three-dimensional environments, Ventura recreates, and then fixes through photography, a mental space that refers to the proper atmosphere of "magical realism" and the fairy-tale flavor of childhood, creating a deliberately surreal contrast with the depth of certain themes treated (such as war, abandonment, memory, identity).
The volume offers a global look at fifteen years of activity of the artist, through the presentation of twenty-one series from 2005 to today, which allow to highlight the evolution of his language which, in addition to photography, is also expressed through painting.

Texts by Rebecca Morse, Simon Baker, Darius Himes, Chris Littlewood, and an interview with Elizabeth Avedon.
9-3/4" x 12-1/8"
180 color & black & white illustrations

Mona Kuhn: Works is the first retrospective by one of the most respected and widely exhibited contemporary art photographers at work in the world today. Over a career spanning more than twenty years, Kuhn’s underlying theme has always been humanity’s longing for spiritual connection and solidarity. She is renowned for developing close relationships with her subjects, resulting in images of remarkable intimacy. Her use of playful visual strategies reveals glimpses into the psyche as it is expressed through the human form, ultimately reinterpreting the nude in the canon of contemporary art. Mona Kuhn: Works is an essential volume for anyone with an interest in the human form in contemporary art.

Charlotte Mano, Thank You Mum
Published by Editions Xavier Barral, in 2020
Hardcover, 108 pages, texts in English/French
Like a loophole, and in the face of the upcoming battle, Charlotte Mano tries by creating images of a whole new order, to face the cruel deadline, and gradually takes her mother into a role-playing game in which each one will gradually find his place. In a most disturbing face-to-face encounter, the little rituals, the everyday productions will be part of the path to exorcise pain. Like a marabout, Charlotte Mano builds small theatres with pieces of string, and concocts a fantastical universe, straight out of the childhood garden. She then imagines, in an ode to nature that protects her, and in which she builds herself every day, symbolic paintings, with restorative virtue.

安雅·尼埃米(Anja Niemi), In Character
Published by Thames & Hudson, 2019
18x23 cm
This album is the first retrospective of the Norwegian photographer. Anja Niemi’s work has emerged as a distinctive force in the venerable tradition of conceptual self-portrait. She works alone and always with characters. With her intentional and elaborate demonstrations, she is a photographer, director and main model, inserting herself into the life of her fictional characters. Extending the self-portrait, Anja Niemi is basically a storyteller, a fictional creator. His images offer a multi-layered and cinematic exploration of identity, gender roles and, above all, our relationship with ourselves.

Paolo Ventura, Short Stories
Published by Aperture, 2016
Pages : 160
21,5 x 30 cm
Paolo Ventura’s Short Stories are whimsical narratives told through pictures—tales of love, war, and family—where things magically appear or disappear, set in an imaginary past of World War II Italy. Much like in silent films, the drama unfolds with no words or captions. For these works, Ventura constructed life-sized sets, in which he situated himself and members of his family (casting his son, wife, and twin brother as actors), in stories that are at once charming and disquieting.

Susanne Wellm, Weaving Time
Weaving Time
Hardcover
12.2 x 11.5 in.
158 pages
Text by: Lilian Munk Rösing
Published by Narayana Press
Artist Susanne Wellm works with photography as her primary medium. Since the 1990s she has explored a wide array of photographic techniques, both analogue and digital, often artistically utilized in a merged form. Exploring the physical qualities of the two-dimensional image, she recently developed a method combining photography and weaving, adding complex, tactile layers of colour, contrast and depth to the expression of the pieces. An omnipresent vein running through Wellm’s practice is her interest in time, memory and the construction of narrative. With a starting point of a vast archive of found imagery from old family albums, historical movie stills and original captures, Wellm draws connecting lines between the personal dramas of everyday life and the collective history and trauma of modern Europe.
